Society for Family Health and the Global Fund Malaria Principal Recipients (National Malaria Elimination Programme and Catholic Relief Services) have commenced the process of distributing 3,429,819 free Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) in all the 25 LGAs in Delta State.
The micro-plan process began the 16th of January, 2019 with an inception meeting with stakeholders in the State. Other activities conducted include inauguration of the State LLIN Campaign Coordination Network (LCCN); training of State Supervisors who were assigned to Local Government Areas (LGAs) to conduct cascade training and retrieve micro-plan data; adaptation of demand creation materials (TV and radio jingles, banners, etc.); advocacies to key stakeholders, etc.
The LLIN campaign team also had a fruitful meeting with all the 25 LGA Chairmen or their representatives to seek their participation and ownership support towards a successful LLIN distribution campaign in Delta State. Also in attendance were the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ononye Mordi, the Chairperson Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Mrs. Isioma Okobah, the Director State Malaria Elimination Programme, Dr. Francis Onojeta, Executive Secretaries of LGA Primary Health Care Development Agencies and the Press.
The micro-plan data obtained from all LGAs by State Supervisors has been harmonized and will be used to draw up the final plan of the free LLIN distribution scheduled for 4th to 8th of May, 2019.
SFH, working with relevant stakeholders, will ensure that free LLINs will be distributed in all the 268 wards of the State; including the households in the hard to reach riverine areas.
