STAR COVID -19 Project

The Self-Testing Africa COVID-19 (STAR – COVID 19) is a market research project funded by UNITAID with Population Services International (PSI) as the Lead Technical partner. This grant is being
implemented in seven (7) countries namely: Nigeria, India, Malawi, Brazil, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. In Nigeria, Society for Family Health (SFH) as the lead implementer will be working in
conjunction with Zankli Research Centre (ZRC) at Bingham University, with support from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, to carry out the project’s implementation science
research. The project goal is focused on enhancing access to COVID-19 testing, isolation, care, and treatment interventions within healthcare systems in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). The overarching objective of the project is to gather evidence on feasibility, acceptability, usability, and cost effectiveness of existing as well as new diagnostic tools and use cases and delivery approaches to inform global and national policies.

Target Population and Coverage
The STAR- COVID-19 project is implemented in FCT –Abuja across the six (6) area councils, targeting
persons within the urban and rural settlement which cuts across:
I. Primary Health Care Centres
II. Community Pharmacists/Patent Medicine Shops
III. Workplace
IV. Tertiary Institution
V. Motor Parks

Expected Impact of the Project
Reduce morbidity and mortality among COVID-19 infected individuals in Nigeria.
