Recent Activities

SFH International Ghana is actively supporting the Family Health Division of the Ghana Health Service (FHD-GHS) and the Community Practice Pharmacist Association (CPPA) in conducting a comprehensive training programme. The focus is on enhancing the capabilities of Community Pharmacists (CPs) and Over-The-Counter Medicine Sellers (OTCMS) in the delivery of Community-Based Family Planning (FP) Services.

This valuable training initiative, generously sponsored by the West Africa Health Organisation (WAHO), aims to empower approximately 300 CPs and OTCMS hailing from the Greater Accra, Central, Borough, Northern, and Ashanti regions of Ghana. By uniting these healthcare professionals through knowledge enrichment, SFH International Ghana contributes to the broader objective of promoting accessible and quality family planning services within communities.

SFH-Ghana is dedicated to facilitating this impactful endeavour, fostering an environment where Community Pharmacists and Over-The-Counter Medicine Sellers are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to play a crucial role in advancing family planning initiatives. The training serves as a testament to our commitment to community healthcare and promoting the well-being of individuals and families across Ghana.

Last week, SFHIG supported the Family Health Division of the Ghana Health Service (GHS -FHD) and Community Pharmacy Practice Association (CPPA) of Ghana to train Community Pharmacists (CPs) in Community-Based Family Planning Methods and Services. The Training of CPs occurred in 6 regions (Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern, Eastern, Western and Volta regions) of Ghana. The training, funded by UNFPA Ghana, focused on FP policies, standards and protocols in Ghana, Community Based FP methods, Data Management, counselling, and referral.

This project, built on the current learnings from the Task shifting Task Sharing Policy in many African Countries to increase access for Ghanaian women to Family Planning Counselling, commodities and referrals for FP services and strengthen linkages between the public and private sectors. This project will also answer market research questions on whether working with community pharmacists will broaden method choice for women generally and more specifically for the young and sexually active adolescent girls based on the Ghana FP Costed Implementation Plan.

A total of 240 Community Pharmacists were trained it is expected a phased approach will be implemented throughout the 1st year of the project, with training and development of tools for counselling at national level and scale up of training of Community Pharmacists (CPs) to other regions.

SFH International Ghana led by Country Manager @Theresa Maame Ekua Galley, had the pleasure of welcoming @Abdulsamad Salihu, COP KP CARE 2 Project and @Halima Nuhu Dikko, COP ICHSSA-3 Project to the Ghana office in East Legon, Accra.
