The Lafiyan Yara (Well-being of children) is a three-year project funded by AIDSFONDS and fully implemented by SFH in partnership with the Institute of Public Health (IPH) of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). The project is currently implemented in Taraba state and it covers eight (8) out of the sixteen (16) Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the State.
The project adopts an implementation science approach, using existing community mechanisms such as the Traditional Birth Attendants (TBA), Village health workers (VHWs) and the Proprietary Patient Medicine Vendors (PPMVs) popularly known as ‘chemist’. This is to mobilize pregnant women to health facilities for HIV testing as well as children below the age of 15 years who are at risk of HIV.
The Lafiyan Yara project aims to increase access and uptake of HIV services among children (0-14 years) and reduce HIV transmission from mother to child in Taraba State by 2022.
