Staff of SFH HQ joined the rest of the world in celebrating World AIDS Day 2018. During the event, there was a health talk about HIV and AIDS, Mobile HIV Testing Services and Condom distribution. This was organized by the GFHIV directorate. The event was flagged off by the DMD SBE, Dr. Omokhudu Idogho. He gave a brief about the origin of World AIDS Day. He also talked about the global impact of HIV and how SFH has been in the forefront in fighting the epidemic and also one of the first principal recipient of the Global Fund grant till date. He enjoined all to keep up the fight in managing the epidemic and hopefully by 2030 Nigeria will record zero new infection.
The Deputy Programme Director of GFHIV, Dr Segun Oyedeji gave an overview of HIV. This included the means by which HIV is transmitted and methods of preventing infection with HIV. We had an interactive session with the cleaners, corp members and staff of SFH. This brought out issues and discussions that further emphasized the need for condom demonstration. There were new learnings on HIV and condom demonstration. Particularly that condoms do not reduce sensation during sexual intercourse while protecting an individual from infection with HIV. This was followed by condom demonstration for Male and Female condoms. Also, HIV Testing Services was provided by two trained Counsellor Testers for both staff and interested persons around the office. Condoms and lubricants were made available as well.
At the end of the day, this exercise was a bonding session for the different cadre of staff in SFH.
